Willie Mullins: Irish coach wins 4,000 times overall

When Daryl Jacob rode Bronn to victory in the Beginners Chase at Fairyhouse, legendary Irish trainer Willie Mullins achieved 4,000 victories in his career.

Since his debut in 1988, Mullins has established himself as one of the most prestigious names in training.

He is not only the most successful handler at the Cheltenham Festival with 88 winners, but also a 16-time champion trainer in Ireland.

Being a very small part of history was wonderful, said Jacob.

“The caliber of the man Willie is and what he has accomplished are beyond words. It’s amazing to have a small role in that history.”

Mullins, a 2005 Grand National champion with Hedgehunter, completed a clean sweep of the Festival’s championship races when Energumene triumphed in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

Tourist Attraction won the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in 1995, becoming Mullins’ first Festival champion. Mullins would go on to win seven of the opening races at Cheltenham.

Al Boum Photo, a two-time Champion Hurdle winner, Hurricane Fly, Faugheen, Florida Pearl, and Quevega, a six-time Mares’ Hurdle winner are some of the other well-known individuals who have trained at Closutton.
