The PGA and LPGA Tours have announced a new mixed-team event, the Grant Thornton Invitational.

A new 32-player mixed-team event with a $4 million (£3.3 million) prize pool has been created by the PGA and LPGA Circuits.

16 players from each tour will compete in the first Grant Thornton Invitational, which will run from December 8 to 10 in Florida.

The circuits will be hosting an annual competition for both male and female players for the first time in 24 years.

Mollie Marcoux Samaan, the commissioner of the LPGA, called it a “important step forward” for golf.

The Grant Thornton Invitational has been added to our 2023 itinerary, and we could not be more thrilled about it, she continued.

We’re going to provide a remarkable and enjoyable experience for all golf fans by partnering with the PGA Tour to hold a mixed event where the top male and female golfers in the world compete side by side. This will show off our players’ exceptional skills in a new setting to a new audience.

“The LPGA, women’s golf, and golf in general have all advanced significantly with this.”

Tiburon Golf Course and The Ritz-Carlton Naples will be the event’s hosts.
