Jorginho leaves Chelsea and joins the Arsenal in a £12 million transfer.

Jorginho, an Italian midfielder, has been acquired by Arsenal from Chelsea for £12 million.

The 31-year-old was in the final six months of his deal with the Blues when he transferred from Napoli to Chelsea in 2018.

Tuesday, after passing a physical exam, he signed an 18-month contract with a one-year extension option.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, described Jorginho as a midfielder with “knowledge, deep leadership abilities, and a significant amount of Premier League and international experience.”

“Despite his job successes, he still has a great desire and readiness to contribute here.

We are thrilled to have signed Jorginho and extend a warm welcome to him and his family.

After having two bids for Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo rejected by Brighton, the Gunners switched their focus to Jorginho.

Caicedo is not up for sale, according to Brighton, and it appears that he will stay with the team through the deadline of 11 p.m.

How is Chelsea able to keep investing during the transfer window?
Jorginho is Arsenal’s third new acquisition of the January transfer window after the club acquired Leandro Trossard of Belgium from Brighton for £21 million and Poland’s Jakub Kiwior from Spezia for 20 million euros (£17.6 million).

The team led by Mikel Arteta has a game in hand over the teams directly below them and leads the Premier League by five points.

Jorginho
Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli in 2018 for approximately £50 million.
In 213 games with Chelsea, Jorginho has scored 29 goals and helped the team win the Champions League, Europa League, Uefa Super Cup, and Fifa Club World Cup.

Although he was born in Brazil, he came to Italy when he was 15 years old and decided to represent the Azzurri internationally.

He has 46 caps and will wear number 20 for the Gunners. He was a member of the Italy team that defeated England to win Euro 2020 at Wembley in July 2021.

Sporting director at Arsenal, Edu, stated: “Jorginho is a seasoned player with a solid work ethic who adds quality and experience to our team.

“He is a player who matches our style of play and joins us right when he can make a significant contribution in a crucial position to keep our momentum going. Jorginho is welcomed at Arsenal.”
