Jessie Lemonier, a former linebacker with the Detroit Lions, passed away at the age of 25, according to the National Football League organization.
In 2020, Lemonier signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Chargers.
In the 2021–22 season, he appeared in seven games for the Lions. He would have turned 26 on Tuesday.
The Detroit Lions posted on Twitter, “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the demise of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier.”
“Jessie was a fantastic young man and a role model teammate who passed away far too soon. His family and friends are in our hearts and prayers at this trying time.”
Lemonier left the Lions and signed with the Arizona Cardinals in May 2022, but was cut following the Cardinals’ training camp in August of that same year.
He had not played for an NFL team since, but recently, after signing with the Houston Gamblers, he was traded to the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League.
