Ben Youngs was not selected for England’s Six Nations squad to face Italy in 2023.

veteran scrum-half The 29-man England team that will play Italy in the Six Nations on Sunday does not include Ben Youngs.

Along with Jack van Poortvliet, Alex Mitchell of Northampton is one of the two scrum halves.

Anthony Watson and Ben Curry, both of whom started for Scotland in their 29-23 loss, are also absent.

There are three players: flanker Jack Willis, center Henry Slade, and wing Henry Arundell.

Both Slade (hip) and Arundell (foot) have made full recoveries and are eligible for selection.

On Friday in the afternoon, England’s head coach Steve Borthwick will announce his matchday 23.

The 20-year-old London Irish player Arundell made an astonishing impact during his limited cameos on the summer tour of Australia and is anticipated to play this weekend against the Azzurri.

The wing has a “unique talent,” according to captain Owen Farrell, evoking one of the greatest players in English rugby history.

When he receives the ball in practice, “I get a feeling that something is about to happen,” Farrell told BBC Sport.

“Since I’m being completely honest, there aren’t many people I would almost jump out of my seat for if they got the ball. He belongs to them.

“I’m not comparing them at all, but as a kid, I always felt like Jason Robinson would do something when he got the ball, and I still do when Henry gets the ball. He has a unique talent.”

Youngs, who holds the record for most caps for England’s men, is left out of a Six Nations matchday team for the first time since 2018.

Defense coach Kevin Sinfield stated, “We have attempted to choose a squad that we think provides us the best chance to perform well on Sunday and win.”

“This is very much a squad to us; it’s not a 15 and 23. Sadly, the lads will return from their trip home.

“Nothing about this involves playing mind tricks. We believe that this gives us the best chance of succeeding, and he [Youngs] fully supports our efforts.

“He is certainly disappointed, as you can anticipate, just like the other boys who are returning home.

They understand that we are all trying our best here and that we have to make some decisions even though they don’t always agree with us, even though they want to play for their nation.
